Mark your calendar November 20, 2014 is the 38th Annual Great American Smoke Out.

According to the American Cancer Society, more people quit smoking for good on this event than any other day.  Every year 4 million Americans quit. You can do it too.

There are plenty if reasons to quit. First is for your health. Did You Know That?

Most experts agree the single most important thing you can do for your health is stop smoking.
More than 25 different diseases are associated with tobacco use, including cancer of the lung, pharynx, uterus and cervix, high blood pressure, heart disease, emphysema, asthma and strokes.
Smokers tend to miss more work due to illness than nonsmokers do.  They spend more money out of pocket for health and life insurance.

Here are some tips to help you succeed:

Plan a survival kit. You will need some substitutes.  Try gum, carrot sticks or toothpicks to keep you hands and mouth busy.
Have a support person to call. The decision to stop smoking can elicit uncomfortable emotions. Ask someone to be available to you to encourage you through the tough times.
Use acupuncture to quit smoking has enormous benefits. Refrain from coffee and sweets. Research has shown that these increase dehydration and produce cravings.
Do some deep breathing. It will decrease your tension and help remove the toxins from your lungs.
Get some exercise.  It will improve your lung volume and circulation. It will also remove the nicotine toxins. Go for that walk! Park your car further away.
Time is important.  If you make the first 24 hours smoke free, you have a 90% chance of remaining smoke free.
Have a hate list.  I hate feeling terrible. I hate the idea of dying from cancer or a heart attack. I hate having smelly clothes and bad breath.  I would hate not seeing my children grow up.  I hate throwing all that money away on cigarettes each year.
